Cromer v Brooke (a)

13th June 2009

Norfolk Alliance Premier Division

Glorious sunshine greeted Cromer on their arrival to Brooke. The home side won the toss and put the North Norfolk side into bat.

Brooke made a perfect start with a wicket falling in the first over, and two more followed back to the pavilion, all falling to trouble the scorers and Cromer were 10 for 3. The pairing in the middle was David Turner and Colin Brown and these two batsmen firstly stopped the collapse and once settled they moved Cromer towards a competitive total.

Their partnership came to an end in the 44th over when Turner fell at the hands of Vinay Parikh for a superb 61. Turner and Brown batted together for 40 overs and put on a fourth wicket stand of 144. Brown was dismissed in the same over after contributing an excellent 63.

The remaining batsmen only added single figure scores and Cromer were bowled out in the final over for 185. Just Brown and Turner made it double figures with extras (41) being the next top scorer.

Brooke overseas Parikh did the damage with the ball taking 6 wickets for 23 runs. Borges finished with 2 for 11.

In reply Brooke lost an early wicket thanks to some sharp work in the field from Liam Davies to run out Sturman. Parikh came to the crease and along with Prentice put on 56 before Dean Elliott bowled Parikh (29).

At the halfway stage the hosts needed 105 runs with 7 wickets in hand, so Brooke were favourites for the win, especially whilst Sheehy was still there. Sheehy gave a chance whilst in the 20’s but this was dropped and Cromer were made to pay for this as he would finish not out on 57 and he guided his side to a five wicket victory.

A disappointing display after last weekend’s great effort against Mallards. Diss are the visitors to the Norton Warnes this Saturday.
